The project

Plan.B project summary

Since 2020, the project "Plan.B" is offering advice and support to refugees and migrants in the City of Tübingen, the district of Tübingen and the wider area, helping them to exercise their rights in asylum and residence law. By offering also counsil and advice in the related fields of education, professional training and work, Plan.B contributes to the sustainable integration of refugees in our society.

In addition to offering advice to asylum seekers during the course of their asylum procedure, a special focus of the project is to assist refugees whos asylum application was previously rejected, but who still have the option to develop a prospect to remain in Germany due to education, vocational training or qualified work.

During the past 5 years Plan.B has evolved into a broadly recognized specialized counseling office in the region and beyond.

Who is behind the project Plan.B?

The body running Plan.B is move on - menschen.rechte tübingen.eV.

The work of the non-profit, charitable non-government organization menschen.rechte Tübingen e.V., founded in April 2016, is focused on solidary support for refugees and on political human-rights activism. The organization assists refugees in their every-day life and issues, in their asylum procedures, and voices support for their social and political rights. We are not only working for refugees, but together with them. In addition to the practical refugee support efforts, the organization is also actively fighting racism, sexism and other human-rights violations.

More information is on the website of the organization: move on - menschen.rechte Tübingen e.V.

What does Plan.B do exactly?

Counseling

Through its counseling offers Plan.B covers a broad range of topics in the field of asylum and residence law. The project offers assistance to people who have just recently arrived in Germany as well as to people who have already been living in Germany for many years and want to obtain a "safer" residence status by realistic means.

In 2024, the project Plan.B did work on more than 400 individual cases, and wants to continue and further develop this practical and solidary effort in the future.

Empowerment

Refugees do not have a "lobby". They also do not possess the means to influence the democratic process of decision-making by voting in general elections.

At the same time, refugees are also not simply helpless victims of the asylum- and residence laws and politics. Instead, they are allowed to exercise their right to free speech and freedom of assembly, in order to gain influence on the public discourse about refugees and migrants, and to influence political decision-making.

The project Plan.B therefore supports and assists

  • different forms of migrant self-organization, through which refugees are empowered to develop and articulate their own political positions, and are enabled to make their protest against anti-migrant policies and deportations publicly visible.
  • democratically organized, peaceful means of protest and action
  • political networking efforts, in which refugees participate as autonomous actors "on eye level"
  • activities in the field of political education
  • solidary, charitable campaigns and aid projects with a focus on human rights

Until the takeover of power by the Taliban in September 2021, we have organized regular protests against the monthly mass deportations from Germany to Afghanistan, together with Afghan refugees. Since then we have been actively working for the right to family reunification, organizing emergency aid for relatives of Afghan refugees who still had to remain in Afghanistan, and pushing for the evacuation of endangered Afghan persons to Germany.

In addition, we are participating also in supra-regional networks and public actions, demonstrations etc.

Stay!

No one "needs" to be deported. Even if a an asylum application has been rejected, the stay of the concerned person in Germany can still be officially tolerated, until alternative options for remaining in Germany can possibly be achieved.

Together, we want to work towards this goal in a comprehensive and sustainable way.

Plan.B therefore also creates and publishes printed information and practical advice on the different options to remain in Germany - e.g. "Ausbildungsduldung" (tolerance based on doing vocational training), the right of residence based on "successful integration", hardship applications etc.
In addition we link to informations from other organizations.
